Stephanotis floribunda
Description: The genus name Stephanotis has Greek origin, made up of two words; stephonos meaning crown and otos which is ear; a 'crown of ears' which it faintly resembles with the flower trumpet as a meatus surrounded by five "ears."
Botanical Name: Stephanotis floribunda
Common Name: Bridal Wreath
Rate of growth: It is vigorous climber
Height: They can grow from 2-6 meters
Foliage: elliptic, 2-4 inches long, abruptly pointed at apex, obtuse or subcordate, thick, shining;
Flower: The flowers are waxy, star-shaped and highly scented, about 3cm long, in clusters and are produced in summer
Fertilizer: Feed with a fertilizer suitable for tropical plants during growing season.
Light: They like warm sunny tropical positions, and will grow pretty well through much of Australia. In the south give them a protected position so they get as much winter warmth as possible. Otherwise grow them indoors in a conservatory in a pot and they'll prosper quite nicely.
Watering Needs: Even watering throughout the growth season especially if your plant is in bud or bloom. Keep somewhat on the dry side during the rest period.
Treatment: Prune back soft wood in spring to encourage flowering. Also remove all dead or damaged wood. While doing this you may carefully straighten up the tangle of branches this plant often creates. Fasten branches to the support and help to plant twine the right way.
